Ivan Berg's portrait studio is set up in a spare room at the top of his house close-by Hampstead Heath's Parliament Hill. All portraits are photographed using ‘Rembrandt Lighting’ and a signature style of a plain black background with the camera lens set precisely at the eye level of the subject.
All portraits are real - that is they are exactly what the camera's portrait lens sees. There is no re-touching or 'Photoshopping'.
Each portrait sitting takes between two and three hours including the selection from the up to 100 shots taken and the archive storing on a USB stick of 10 of the jointly selected best shots from the session.
Printing and framing of the exhibition-size portraits is also done in-house as Ivan insists on having complete control of everything from the photography right through to handing the finished portrait to the sitter.
